I had a dead-end job as a cashier, a degree in English, and a cat named after Flannery O’Connor who gives head butts and chirps like a bird.

I packed up numbers 2 and 3 and ditched number 1.

Sometimes, there are things that follow you around for life, despite a semi-nomadic lifestyle. In my case, it’s a high school nickname: Asparagus. Another thing that’s followed me around is the travelbug. I come by it honestly, though – I come from a long line of wanderers, probably best described by my boat-family name: Rogue. And so, a Rogue Asparagus am I.

Dorky nickname notwithstanding, my cat still likes me! My furry friend accompanies me on occasion, and has earned for herself the moniker Flannery the Expat Cat. She and I are always up for a new experience, whether it’s a new adventure, a new book, or a new food.
